Kizz Root Beer Flavored Natural Soda

June 24, 2000
Filed under: root beer reviews — anthony @ 7:02 pm
Type: Root Beer Comes In: 12 oz can
Available: CT, NJ, NY Obtained in: unknown
Head: Medium Sweetener: high fructose corn syrup
Caffeine: No

that say it is all natural, and i guess there is nothing in the ingredients that is artificial, but there really is not much in the ingredients in general: “sparkling water, high fructose corn syrup, natural flavors, citrci acid.” i would just like to know what the “natural flavors” are. tastes a little white grape-ish to me actually, more like grape juice than grape candy that is. quite carbonated and just there. not offensive, but not flavorful enough for me to really form much of an opinion.

i am not sure what kind of soda this really is. Birchola i guess. some hybrid of birch beer and cola? perhaps it is their attempt at a new soda flavor entirely, something no one else has. who knows… it sorta does taste like that and is pretty decent. no caffeine which is good. got a little kick to it also. sweet, commercial root beer-ish with a taste of cola. decent.

Bundaberg Root Beer

June 22, 2000
Filed under: root beer reviews — anthony @ 9:14 pm
Type: Root Beer Comes In: 375 ml glass bottle
Available: online, Australia Obtained in: mailorder from popsoda.com
Head: Small Sweetener: sugar
Caffeine: No
Website: http://www.bundaberg-brew.com.au/

they claim it is “naturally brewed from sarsaparilla root to our genuince old recipe.” and i can taste that. not that it is bad, it just seems beer-like, probably because it is brewed with malt. yet, it is a soft drink so do not fret my straight edge brethren. it has a very hearty, robust taste, in part from the malt i am sure, but also the molasses. i am not sure if i would ever buy this again, but it is something people should try. if you can find it that is. i am sure you can get it something in the US, besides mailorder, but it is a product of Australia, so it could be difficult.

Old Mill Sarsaparilla

Type: Sarsaparilla Comes In: 10oz glass bottle
Available: CA, online Obtained in: mail from popsoda.com
Head: Small Sweetener: corn sweetener, sugar
Caffeine: No

i’ve never seen a red sarsaparilla before actually. and if this is what they would all taste like, i hope i don’t see many more. pretty watery and not really much taste to it at all in fact. a little bit bitter i guess but otherwise, not a truely discernable flavor. not offensive, but not yummy.

Jeff’s Amazing New York Root Beer Float Egg Cream

Caffeine: No

i guess i should qualify this before i really start by saying that i don’t like egg creams much. although this is one of the better ones i have had. they just make me feel sort of nauseous, the tastes and textures and feel of it is all wrong and mixed up. if you like egg creams i think you may enjoy this. very creamy and i guess it tastes somewhat like a root beer float. who knows… it does have real milk and cream in it so you’d think it should have an expiration date, but no. must be like that cheese you can get in those twin packs with the summer sausage on the counter of 7-11s across the land. magic dairy products.

Think! Interactive Root Beer

June 2, 2000
Filed under: root beer reviews — anthony @ 4:29 pm
Type: Root Beer Comes In: 8.4oz can
Available: discontinued Obtained in: NJ somewhere
Head: Small Sweetener: high fructose corn syrup
Caffeine: No

i don’t have a clue what makes this “interactive” root beer. certainly not the fact circuit board printed on it or the crappy herbs (ginko biloba, ginseng, and gotu kola) in it. it could be the fact that it tastes like dirt so you will be tempted to throw it across the room and get some exercize this way. but it is not SO bad that i would do that. journey or virgil’s didn’t make it afterall. =) very carbonated, i think i will be belchin’ all evening. good thing my girlfriend is not gonna be back for a few hours. i am not a huge fan of putting weird stuff in my drinks but i guess if you are looking for choline and those other things, this is a reasonably tasty way to get em. oh yeh, IT HAS 4166% OF YOUR RDA OF VITAMIN B12, doesn’t that seem wrong?!
