Cody Blake’s Original Microbrewed Root Beer

cane sugar root beers always taste different i must admit. not in a bad way or anything, just different. i was quite amazed to find this brew when i went back to my college for reunion. mainly since i have been back to the school a ton and never saw this. (heck they also had “Vassar rootbeer” made by dominion on campus, so i am really out of the loop i guess). i like the label of this drink a lot, very old time and nice. the taste is not too unusual, very similar to several other brands. kind of like Lion’s Brew if the taste were not so intense. yummy.

Jack Russell Red Ball Root Beer

i must say this is a very mysterious soda, all that is on the huge bottle is the label with:

Red Ball Root Beer

Jack Russell Brewing Company
Camino CA

no ingredients, no size, nothing. i almost feel like it is a quite elaborate joke by the people who sent it to me to get me to drink their dog’s pee. (Jack Russell? Red Ball?) well, whatever, i shall play along if so.
on initial taste, i was repulsed, but
that feeling went away more and more as i drank the rest of the bottle. it has a definite kick to it, an almost bitter taste really. i don’t like it a lot. perhaps it is pee after all.

tons and tons of people have written to me asking why i have not reviewed this brand yet and telling me how amazing it is. i’ll tell you why i never reviewed it: CUZ I COULDN’T GET ANY! i’m not sure why people expect me to have access to every microbrew in the country and know exactly what stores in the their neighborhood carry each one.
anyhow, enough ranting… on to the review. and honestly i do not know how i feel about this. the bottle is amazing first off, one of the best one there. the flavor is herbal as all get out with an herbal extract mixture of: mountain cherry, mountain maple, fenugreek, birch, licorice root, hops extract, maple syrup and others. and you can taste each thing, especially the licorice and maple syrup. i don’t think i like it actually. not a ton at least. it is decent and definitely unique. and i’d recommend it to certain people who like licorice and maple syrup.

this place sells mostly brewing equipment and supplies and junk. but they brew this root beer too it seems. one would think they’d do a better job since they have all of that equipment, but this is kind of watery and dull. actually it tastes a lot like root beer extract so perhaps this is just some demonstration of their wares more than anything else. overly sweet but not in a good way. i will drink the case i bought but i doubt i’d get it again.
