Briar’s Diet Root Beer

Type: Diet Root Beer Comes In: 12oz glass bottle
Available: NJ, OK, online Obtained in: netgrocer.com
Head: Large Sweetener: aspartame (NutraSweet)
Caffeine: No
Website: http://www.briars.com/

can it be?! a diet soda that tastes good?! yeh, actually it does. weird. yeh, it has a slight aftertaste of NutraSweet but now i even less understand why other diet drinks with aspartame taste so awful. leave it to a NJ brewer to do it right i suppose. granted it is not amazing, but it is in fact better than many non-diet brews i have sampled. i may even finish the whole bottle. decently creamy, pretty sweet, but that weird sweet of nutrasweet although it is not overwhelming as i said already. if i was diabetic or whatever, i would drink this i think.

Olde Brooklyn Diet Williamsburg Root Beer

i just don’t think i can get past the bad aspartame taste. they have made a valient effort here though i guess. the licorice taste from the regular root beer is also here, although not as strong or as good. i usually feel kind of sick after drinking diet sodas. it may be imagined though from worrying about either cancer or brain tumors, depending on the sweetener. plus they never really taste like what they are supposed to. i guess i could identify this as a root beer though.

Briar’s Cane Sugar Premium Red Birch Beer

this was also at the grocery store that day. in contrast though, it is not at all superior to the regularly sweetened variety of Briar’s birch beer. it is much too carbonated and it has a slightly bitter taste, when there is a taste at all. it may very well be that i am affected by only sleeping an hour in the past 34 hours, but i have not had my taste buds be affected by such actions. i am not saying it is bad but it just tastes slightly sweet, slightly wintergreen and that is all. alas… cool, heavy bottle though.

Ingredients: carbonated water, sugar, caramel color, sodium benzoate (a preservative), citric acid, natural and artificial flavor

Briar’s Cane Sugar Premium Root Beer

i saw this at the grocery store even though they have not carried other Briars’ stuff in a while. i thought it was just a new packaging but then i checked out www.briars.com and found it is an entirely new line. i think this is the heaviest bottle of root beer i have ever expirienced. this root beer is much better than their regular version. although it does not have the usual cane sugar taste that i expected. it is more of a corn sweetener sweetness. although if i pay a lot of attention (which i should do anyhow to review, right?), i can taste is slightly. it is pretty creamy and not really too stand-out-ish (i just made that up, like it?). but it is good. deceptive though since it looks like it has little carbonation but when you drink it, it tastes very carbonated. not bad, probably the best thing in this size bottle. i just wish they came up with a different name for it. throw in “old fashioned” or “draught” or “microbrewed” or something.
