Flossmoor Station Goober Brau Root Beer

i did have a mug of this at the restaurant and also a growler to go. sadly i did not take notes on the mug as the growler is a bit flat after a week. oh well. i suppose it just had a bit more carbonation than this. the head was pretty small to begin with. this soda just does not stand out though. yeh, it is pretty good but does not have a strong flavor really, it is just there. you can tell it is root beer of course yet not really enough. they have really good ice cream though also which i would recommend very highly as it is served in a caboose by rather cute girls.

another car hop that i knew about beforehand and headed right for. i must say that this place had the cutest waitresses of any drive in i have been to. although the Stewart’s in Whitehouse or whatever on Rt 22 in New Jersey has very cute girls also, they are much too young. i digress here, sorry. i like this place, good signs, great feel, excellent service, and probably good hot dogs. the root beer was rather good, a little over sweet, but not so bad. it had a real carmel taste going on in it too. the carbonation level was nice and high although the head was not so big really. nothing wrong with that.

Mug N Bun Root Beer

this drive in car hop i knew about beforehand. it is right near the Indianapolis Speedway which is pretty rad. and also near a Muffler Man but that is another webiste entirely. sadly when i was here it was raining an insane amount, car hops are just much more fun in the sun i think. but in any case, i ordered some fries and of course a frosty mug of their finest brew. they know how to do it as the mug was indeed fresh from the freezer causing a constant foggy mist to come off of it and the soda contained there-in. the root beer was a little bit watery i thought but had a definite maple syrup-ish sweetness to it. that seemed to give it more of a candy taste, which i approves of whole-heartedly. i hear the food is very good also. the fries were tasty, but i guess i should have had the onion rings. oh well.

B-K Root Beer

I was driving between destinations in Indiana when I passed by this sign. for a moment i considered whether i had time to stop for some soda and if i would even be BK Root Beer or the sign was just old. of course i realized i had to stop so i turned around and went back, pulled in. it looks like they should have car hop service but they don’t anymore, which is fine by me. so i go inside and try to order some soda and food. after waiting for a good 15 minutes and someone in the back looking at me at least 10 times, they come out and take my order and i get some root beer. the brew was pretty decent. the carbonation level was very low as was the foamy head, barely any of either to speak of. the flavor had a slightly bitter taste while being a bit too sweet also. i know, a weird combo. it actually tasted somewhat unusual, so they get points for that. try it out.

Lafayette Brewing Co Old Fashioned Rootbeer

I went here intentionally, hearing that they made their own root beer. i must say that bartenders always seem annoyed when i ask for a growler to go of root beer, perhaps they expect no tip or it is a pain for them to do or something, i don’t know. so it took me a week to try this soda, which may have wrecked it as it was in my car trunk for 2 days. hopefully not. it does not have a lot of carbonation or a big head but it is a pretty hearty soda. yet it does not stand out as really unique. i think it is fun and cool that you can get a root beer on tap at a bar though.

Empire Bottling Works Sarsaparilla

Type: Sarsaparilla Comes In: 12oz glass bottle
Available: NY, RI, online Obtained in: ordered online
Head: Medium Sweetener: cane sugar

it has been much too long that i have had this soda in the fridge. i cannot say it is as unique as the rootbeer was. i mean, it is quite tasty but it in a much more generic-ly good root beer way, not so much in a sarsaparilla way. i find that weird really, that the rootbeer would be the more herbal one while the sarsaparilla is the normal one. oh well. i don’t have a lot to tell here, it is good, i like the cane sugar flavor. it does not stand out but i don’t mind that so much really.

Terra Soda Root Beer- Memory Blend

July 7, 2005
Filed under: root beers — anthony @ 2:27 pm
Type: Diet Root Beer Comes In: 12oz glass bottle
Available: online Obtained in: mail order
Head: Large Sweetener:

i do not know what makes this “memory blend” or even what that means. they also claim to be “America’s Healthiest Soda” which is possible i suppose, no carbs, no calories, no sugar, and organic ginkgo biloba. i guess this qualifies as a diet drink also. i suppose that is good since it kind of stinks. well, compared to real root beers. when taken as a diet drink, it is not so bad. it has a bad aftertase, which i thought stevia did not have. but i also thought stevia was supposed to taste just like sugar and it certainly doesn’t! or maybe that is the ginkgo fouling the taste up. i really wanted to like this as i am all for healthy things, eating mostly organic and being vegetarian and all, but i can’t endorse this really. oh well.
UPDATE! the “memory blend” refers to the fact that ginkgo biloba i supposed to enhance your memory functions! got it. carry on.
