i received about 5 or 6 emails telling me they had found a certain root beer i was looking for at their local Aldi supermarket at bargain prices no less! i think i went to an Aldi once a long time ago but the closest one is not all that close to me and certainly not close enough that i would do my food shopping there versus the 20 or so stores which are closer. i guess i never looked for root beer at the Aldi i did go to though. So finally i went again. i did find the soda i was looking for (which will be reviewed soon) but i also found this one, their store brand. the store itself was rather strange in that pretty much all they sell is their own brand stuff and a few things they somehow got Old Lot style or something. so there is no name brand anything as far as i can tell. whatever, fine by me.
before i even opened this i was framing the review in my head, “yet another store brand… blah blah blah… takes like root beer as you’d expect… blabbity blobbity blah…” but that would not apply for this one. it is a unique taste. yeah, from a store brand! i am not telling you it is a great taste or even a better one than the usual, expected root beer flavor but at least it is different. i would say it is somewhat of a brown sugar flavor on the tail end, a couple seconds post-swallow. it is a bit over carbonated for my tastes but that is not a terrible thing really. even with the high carbonation level it has a pretty small head. this is not a creamy root beer at all. it falls on the more harsh side of things. my tongue is not soothed but instead gently attacked for a moment. for a store brand, interesting, in the grand scheme, just ok.
