it is not too often that i find a new root beer these days, unfortunately. but when i went away for New Years to the Rhinebeck, NY area, i went food shopping at the local Hannaford. there i came upon not one, not two, not three, but FOUR new root beers! whoa! granted two were store brand, one was a weird generic one in a 3L bottle that i will be getting to soon and one was this diet drink. but still, a new root beer is a new root beer so i was quite excited!
also funny, or coincidental i suppose, is that the review of the regular Polar Classics Root Beer posted just yesterday as i write this, which is probably a good year and a half before you will read it. i know i had moved and delayed that review at least three times to make room for other sodas so it is even a little more weird because of that. and yes, i really do have about a year and half worth of weekly reviewed all queued up and ready to post. that number is dwindling though so i shall have to quest anew shortly.
so the design work here has the same flaws as the regular root beer, the color kind of is lost with the soda color. not terribly, but enough to make it seem a little blah. i like the font choices and the direct printing on the bottle although i don’t love clear bottles in general. again, why this is a 11.5 oz bottle and not a regular 12 oz one is beyond me. seems very strange. gotta cut costs somehow maybe…

this is not awful, for a diet drink. the aftertaste is pretty minimal! weird. i wonder how they did that. and why others cannot seem to figure that out. the taste is kind of unusual and not always in the best way. it is quite rich and hearty with a bit of a bitter edge, probably from the sucralose. i don’t hate it but it is not what i would seek out. it does not taste like their other root beers or any other root beer i know of really, it is unique. it lacks that “rooty” taste. sometimes that works well, here, not as much. for diet, it is pretty decent though.
