Brooklyn Soda Works Root Beer

wow, i have been trying to get this soda for quite some time! although NYC is less than an hour away from me, i just don’t go there a whole lot. which is a shame as my best friend lives in Brooklyn. anyway, i decided a quest for NYC root beers was in order and off i went to meet up with two friends. i wrote about it more earlier. this was the first soda acquired during the journey, not counting the two that Mike had waiting for me already. as i said there, when the guy behind the table pulled out my sodas from a very chilled cooler bag thing, i got a big concerned as i did not bring any cooling mechanism at all. this being our first stop on a pretty hot July day, it might be a concern to not keep it cool. but i decided i wouldn’t worry too much about it. i recalled they did not yeast carbonate anyway so i did not think it would cause much issue, it would probably be better to keep it cool, but oh well. real world.
the label is fun, very homemade, with the bottled on date written on as well as the type of soda. under that is “brooklyn soda works” typed on with what looks like a manual typewriter about 15 times in various alignments. it adds to the personal feel i think.
so how does it taste? different for sure. very rooty. along with the rootiness comes a little bitterness too, yet it is not a bad thing to me, it is what makes it rooty really. as i think about what i think of it, i am a bit unsure. is it not sweet enough? well it is not very sweet, but it works, if it was sweeter it would be kind of syrupy. is it too bitter? no, i just went through that, pay attention! is it just TOO different? no, i enjoy it but it makes me consider the “root beer” definition some. as far as the actual roots in here, i am not even sure. sarsaparilla, maybe a bit of ginger and i don’t know what else. as i am coming to the bottom of this, i want more. that is the sign of an excellent soda i say. it is not the best i have ever had, no, but it is really good in its way and distinctive for sure. i will be sure to get more if the opportunity arises again.
