first off, i don’t know how i did not review this already but in the spirit of making sure i have reviewed all of the easy to get stuff, i checked and realized i had not. funny as i had bought some in another state a few years ago to review but just never did. i figured i must have looked and realized it had been done already. maybe it has and i just can’t find it. that is definitely possible with my memory and junk. so it seems the “Main Street” line took over at Stop & Shop several years ago. gone are the “Select” line of sodas. it is also used by several other grocery store chains, just with a different little logo on the label. I am not sure how that works as from what I can tell, Stop & Shop is not owned by another company and does not own other companies but I am sure i have bottle of this with the Giant logo on it and i have seen other stores with it. whatever.
so you rarely see a white birch store brand soda. i guess that is somewhat indicative of the region the stores are in. being as how i am in birch beer country i really don’t know if there are other regional flavors out there. does the midwest have lots of cranberry soda? do the southeast stores make kudzu pop? i doubt it, but who knows? not me, that is the point here.
the taste of this drink is ok. expanding on that, it is barely there so i can’t really say it is bad since sweet carbonated water with a hint of wintergreen is not bad. it just is. i want more flavor though if i may be picky. i suppose i should pay more than 99 cents for 2 liters then, huh? why i can’t get 2 liters of just water for 99 cents i don’t know, but that is another issue. in any case, subtle flavor is the theme here. not awful, not good. a little too much carbonation for my tastes though. although it makes me glad that there is a white birch i can get for so cheap, i doubt i would ever do so. kick up the wintergreen a bit and you have something, maybe.
Ingredients:carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup and/or sugar, potassium benzoate (a preservative), artificial flavor, citric acid, gum acacia
