Rocket Fizz Gene Autry Root Beer

i really am not sure how much name recognition Gene Autry has these days. i am around middle aged now i suppose and i barely know who he is beyond a tv cowboy. i assume he was a rival of Roy Rogers but i have no idea. did he tour the country doing rodeos and demos and junk of fancy ropin’ moves? did the ladies swoon? did he sing and play guitar too? or was he just a hollywood type, unable to live the cowboy life like Billy Crystal in ‘City Slickers?’ i could look it up of course but i shall leave that to you humble readers. i gather the point of having Gene Autry involved here is to tap into the cowboy-ness of root beer. i just am not sure it gets you much. but perhaps licensing his name and all was cheap enough that anything gained is a plus. the label picture is a black and white shot of Gene and his horse, Champion. it is very wholesome and 50s-ish. then “Gene Autry” is written in a rope font to add to the cowboy aura going on here.
i must say this is really very good. it is creamy but not too much so, sweet in just the right amount and with a solid rooty flavor. my only complaint is that it does not set itself apart from other really good root beers and thus enter the echelon of amazing root beers. it has a bit of a licorice feel that is nice too. but on the whole, it is pretty standard flavor. very well done of course, but standard. i would definitely get more if it was readily available to me or cheaply mail ordered but neither is the case so this will probably be the only bottle of it i ever drink. that is a bit sad. it always is with the good ones.
