sarsaparillas

Jackson Hole Soda Company Snake River Sarsaparilla

I reviewed the older version of this about 9 years ago. now whether this is actually a new formulation or not is a bit debatable. I mean, there is a new ingredient, quillaia extract, and it has cane sugar instead of “real sugar” (I don’t really know what that means either). for some reason I did not enter in the nutrition info, I suspect it had none as at that time I was always putting it. if I ever get all my bottle out, I will have to check. but based on the ingredients change, I will go with this being a different recipe, even if just slightly.
this is a good drink. I usually expect something pretty hearty and heavy from a sarsaparilla for some reason but this is a little lighter, almost herbal. I like that. it is very smooth but not quite creamy in my mind. the flavor is a combination of perhaps sassafras, a little birch and some other spices I cannot place. I enjoy this. it is subtle yet strong enough to stand on its own or just be drank as a compliment to a meal. I can’t really say if it is better or worse than the old version as it has been 9 years, but right now it is solid.
