Dad’s Root Beer

about 24 years ago I went to Canada with my then girlfriend and bought a bottle of Dad’s Root Beer. I reviewed it shortly after and have had some Dad’s in the intervening years but never checked the ingredients until recently. they are not hugely different, cane sugar instead of just sugar, and no citric acid along with the caloric content, sodium and sugar number all changing. now I don’t know if Dad’s actually changed recipes or if the Canadian version has in fact been different from the American one all this time. I do believe the company has been sold in that time though. they are now based in Jasper, IN and bottled by Orca in California instead of doing it all in Atlanta, GA. it would be rather curious if they changed the recipe of one of the most classic of root beers, but much stranger things have happened.
i’ll admit this is tastier than I recall Dad’s being so maybe they did change it up. in fact, it is rather distinct, which is surprising that they are not strictly straight up root beer. this soda is sweeter than the norm as well as having a little extra flavor in the profile. i would say it is clove or maybe nutmeg, but it sits on the tongue and provides a bit of extra zing to the taste. huh. I may have to get this more often. of the old, mainstream brands, this one probably is my favorite. very cool
