I would have thought this was the same thing as the brew I had reviewed when I went to their restaurant about five years ago. but on the bottle it has a little history. so in 1997 they started serving it on tap. then in 2016 they reformulated it without artificial ingredients and in 2017 they started bottling it. as I reviewed it in 2015, this is a change of recipe so fully qualifies as something new!
woo hoo! now I am extra glad I took that root beer road trip when I did.
this seems rather different from what I recall of what I had on tap. but it has been some time. it is rather standard in taste and mouth feel though. as it is just made with ‘root beer flavoring’ I did think it would be too crazy unusual but it is possible. the head is big and long lasting which has a nice visual appeal if nothing else. the flavor mellows as you drink more of it, getting smoother and a bit more creamy feeling with time. I do not love it but I’d be happy to drink it with a yummy meal. it is not a focal point beverage but fine for accompaniment.
I am ok with what they are doing here but I hope for more really. I always hope for more.
