if you have been following me for a while, you may have noticed my mentioning of my cycling or running activities. this weekend was a particularly hard training weekend so it seemed time to bust this one out. their claim is “benefits with bubbles.” to try to achieve that this drink has branch chain amino acids to aid in recovery, electrolytes for enhanced hydration, and generally other good things such as no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives, sugar free, vegan. although there are few root beers that are not vegan, just a few that have honey. but still, nice to point that out and strive for it.
generally drinks like this are quite bad, they just try to do too much. I have lots of really good recovery or hydration drinks. and I have had tons of truly wonderful root beers. together though? not yet. although I did just get some very yummy cola flavored sports drink powder. I could see a root beer flavored one being good.
so I am pleasantly surprised that this isn’t terrible. huh. how about that? frankly as a root beer it is not good but just as a kind of healthy drink it is decent. somehow they avoid the gross aftertaste of artificial sweeteners. they use sucralose so I am not sure how that worked but whatever. it does taste faintly like root beer but I would not have guessed that. there is pretty much no vanilla or float aspect to this so I am not sure where they got that from. it is sort of bitter but a bit sweet at the end with some rooty notes in the middle. I will admit I am a little sad that I gave away or let others in my house drink the rest of this. not really very much as they enjoyed it probably more than I did. I guess this qualifies as a ‘diet root beer.’ in that case it is one of the better ones I have had.
