Barq’s

this is not really even root beer, and was not intended to be until Coke bought it and claimed it was. ( more info) that “bite” isn’t much of anything either. probably the dumb caffeine or something. i dunno, sometimes i am into Barq’s but not usually. it is probably my last choice among major and most minor root beers. yes, the Barq’s i get has caffeine! perhaps some places in the US or abroad it does not, but here it does. actually the “real” Barq’s is quite tasty and i always get it when i go to New Orleans or the vicinity, that seems like something else entirely to me.

This is my personal favorite when it comes to root beers. It doesn’t have a true root beer taste, but then again i like to drink it, not make root beer floats out of it (there are better root beers for that). This one has what i would call a more mature taste, something that must be aquired. This soda got me through highschool (4 to 6 20 oz bottles a day), i will always love this brand the best.

It’s OK, not great by any means. The same rating for diet Barqs.

As far as major label root beers go (as in, stuff you can find everywhere), this is definitely my favorite. I think it’s quite root beery myself, heh. I love the caffeine; which, by the way, the only place that sells Barq’s without caffeine (to my knowledge) is Utah.

What do you mean when you state “the real Barq’s is quite tasty”? What is the “real Barq’s? I’d like to try some of the Barq’s that’s made with cane sugar in glass bottles.

  5. the real Barqs, available in the greater New Orleans area, is made by the original bottler and much tastier than the mass market one.

Do they still make the Barq’s in glass bottles with cane sugar? I’d really really like to buy me some.

My least favorite root beer that I have ever tasted. It tastes more like cola to me, and that’s even here in Utah where it does not have caffeine. I agree, it’s almost not even root beer. My guess is that those who like this also like cola, which I can’t stand.

  8. I have had this many times, But bought it again to review here. It is really sweet, at least the Bottle I have. Pretty much no root beer flavor, just syrupy sweet. I gave it a 50

A “commercial” root beer that I have had out of desperation and always wish I hadn’t. I try to avoid all high fructose corn syrup/sweetener-based beverages but sometimes, on the road, there are no alternatives and, well, any kind of root beer is preferred over anything else. A kind of metallic taste?

I remember enjoying how Barq’s had a different flavor twist when I was younger but I recently bought a two liter and did not like it as much. It was not bad, just not as good as I remembered.
