Apple Beer Barrel Brothers Root Beer

i have been meaning to order this stuff for a long time and i finally did. i think this is the only root beer (as they claim on the bottle) brewed with Vitamin C and calcium. granted it is less than 1% of your RDA of calcium and only 67.5% of vitamin C but it is still weird. and i think it throws off the flavor. i think the most annoying thing though is that the serving size listed for the nutrition info is 8 oz for this 12 oz bottle. why did they do that?! i had to multiply and even add to figure this stuff out to share with you people! but really, it does not make much sense, perhaps they want to be seen as having less sugar or carbs or something than the competition, but does anyone care that much when you are drinking microbrewed root beer? well, whatever. the soda is a bit watery, but not quite flavorful enough to really be good and not exactly close enough to something refreshingly crisp or whatever. i am disappointed i must admit. now i understand why my dad did not finish the bottle i gave him last week when he visited my house. i thought it would be better. alas, Barrel Brothers, go brew something yummier!

  1. You know, this was ok. But not any better than that. Just ok. OK?

I haven’t tried this yet, but the Apple Beer, the company’s claim to fame, is fantastic.

I was very pleased with Barrel Brothers when we stacked it up against 53 other root beers in a side-by-side frosty mug tasting. It was one of only about 10 root beers that any of us would buy again.

One thing we learned, if you want to like a root beer, serve it in a chilled mug. If you want to see all its flaws, serve it in a room temperature mug. But either way, Barrel Bros. was pretty pleasant and balanced.

  4. Smelling this first, it is very faint in vanilla smell, not much else. would not know from the smell it was root beer.

Not a very strong taste of root beer, this is ok, as everyone else said.

I don’t remember it being that bad at all. I thought it was really no better than A&W or some of the nationals, but I was surprised to see it rated so low. (Then again, it was over a year ago that I had it, I think, but I don’t recall anything from that batch as being bad at all.)

I just realized they have a regular and a “Creamy Vanilla.” One of the other root beer sites rates the Creamy Vanilla significantly higher than the standard version. My bottle says Creamy Vanilla, which may explain my higher rating than the average.
