this is yet another soda i obtained in trade with the ever resourceful Jon. i know little about it as there is no info online, but that will not stop me from judging it with all of my judging might.
the first thing i find interesting/weird about this beverage is that the plastic bottle it comes in is embossed with the Frostop logo. this leads me to believe that they purchase their bottles from or through Frostop. which seems strange. i guess maybe they got a bulk discount at the bottle makers or something? i mean, i hear about glass bottle soda makers re-using the bottles from closed down companies and using the deposit system to try to retain those bottles. but i really don’t think you can/are supposed to re-use plastic bottles so it can’t be that Kansas City Sarsaparilla bought out the old Frostop bottles. well, it could be that they has new ones but Frostop is still going semi-strong so that is fishy. well, whatever.
the second thing i notice is the tagline on the back of the label: “no matter which end of the horse you’re working with… there’s nothing like an ice cold Kansas City Sarsaparilla to quench your thirst.” which i imagine is true but it is not very catchy.
i like sodas in bottles of this size. perhaps that is some silly feeling like i am drinking a 40 or whatever. or that it is not really too much of a stretch for this to be a one person serving size. the taste of this is kind of bland. i know it tastes like something but when i concentrate on it it is very vague. sure, there is a root beer-ish flavor but it is kind of weak and boring. i suppose for 99 cents a quart i cannot expect much though. it is just dull to me. i would rather get a store brand 2 liter bottle for my dollar i think. i don’t think the lack of carbonation is helping the cause here either. there is very little and absolutely no foaming action. alas.

I just finished drinking a KC Sarsparilla and I have to say our opinions differ. First of all, it is definitely carbonated. It tastes like root beer with MORE flavor, not less. I can agree with the slogan not being very catchy, though. I suppose it’s supposed to evoke the image of a ranch hand working in the hot sun and then taking a break for an icy-cold Authentic Kansas City Sarsaparilla.
We tried and then purchased some Kansa City Sarsaparilla in Bozeman Mt. I thought it was very good tasting and agree with kelsey, that it was carbonated well and had a good head. Was on several websites to see if I could find it in the Kalamazoo Mi area. Anyway, I enjoyed it.
I Know the bottle says $1.19 on it but I bought two of them at Orscheln for $.89 each. This has to be one of the top two RB’s I have ever had. I can not decide if “Lost Trail” is better or not? One thing is that Lost Trail cost about $2 for a 12 oz bottle. So hands down winner would have to be KC Sars for the great value and I can also burn the bottle since I dont have trash service.

I thinkn KC Sarsaparill come in glass bottles as well as plastic bottles. Perhaps it would have tasted better in a glass bottle?
By the way, KC Sarsaparilla is made by Frostop. That’s probably why they were in the same type of bottles. 🙂
i just had one. i liked it. it tasted like it was supposed to. this is what sarsaparilla tastes like. loved it. getting me some more.
Purchased at Rural King in Marion OH. Not sure of the price, but I guess I thought the $1.19 on the bottle was reasonable for the size. Plenty of rich, creamy foam. Very tasty, will buy again.
My Hardware store in Wichita KS is now selling this in there cooler with the rest of the Frostop line and it is by far the best I have ever had (Only 2) and it is selling like crazy so we will have to keep it in stock I hope.. good fizz on the ones I have had so far crisp taste good stuff
can this sarsaparilla be purchased in or around the Tucson area or anywhere in Arizona. We purchased a bottle in Morton, Illinois this past summerand loved it. Thankk you
Ace Hardware here in Waukegan, IL, is selling this root beer for a dollar a bottle though the end of the month. I never heard of it before, but tried it, and it was great! I Google’d the brand as there is no URL on the bottle, and this was one of the first results. They also offer a Red Birch (root) beer by the same company, which I also like. I disagree on the foaming head thing, this stuff definately foams!
This brand has a problem with loose caps and the carbonation leaks out. If you get a bottle with a tight cap, it tastes real good. Flat soda doesn’t taste good.
