Virgil’s Diet Rootbeer

ok, i am confused already by this soda. the label proclaims “Dietary Supplement Version” which would imply that there are other versions of their diet rootbeer out there. also, there is no real ingredient list. there is a list of the herbs and spices, another of the herbal formula and the fact that it contains stevia and then an “other ingredients” list. i thought that was illegal, not to have a real ingredient list. and i cannot find any info on their website about any of this. now, the fact that this is made with Stevia does intrigue me, that may be better than the vile artificial sweeteners in other diet drinks. or it could be awful. the fact that it is also made with xylitol makes me wary, sugar alcohols don’t go well with my tummy. i do want to give this a fair chance. since i reviewed the regular and special edition Virgil’s Rootbeers, i have actually come to enjoy them more, but my original review stands as my first impression of the drink at that time, so maybe this one will make up for it at least in my online opinion is concerned.
well, it smells good. that is where the niceness ends, sadly. this is gross. oh my gosh, it just gets worse. it is bitter and harsh and metallic and worse than any medicine i have ever had. and i have had a lot of medicine in my time, i was super allergic as a child. this may in fact be the worst drink i have ever let cross my palette. i think the liquid from rancid mayo would be more disgusting than this but i would not chose to drink that and find out.
i truly, really wanted to like this, i hoped for the best but it is just not anything like root beer or like an enjoyable drink. did i get a bad bottle? possible. do i want to spend a few bucks and try again? not so much but i may one day.
i am shocked that Virgil’s would put their name on this. i mean, the regular soda was not up my alley a decade or so ago, but i could see the merit and interesting-ness of it, the new direction they were taking with it. yet this soda, really, honestly has nothing redeemable going for it. i wonder again at who developed and approved this. is there anyone out there who has tried and enjoys this?
