seeing as how the regular Zevia Root Beer was one of the most vile things i have ever experienced, i have very low hopes for this one. so let us see, shall we, just how this stacks up?
the scent is good, kind of gingery, kind of root beery. ok, maybe this is ok. and for about 4 seconds it is. light, refreshing, not bad. but then, after those four seconds, it gets gross and it only increases with time. at around the 20 second mark (yes, i am timing this), it is truly awful. it is bitter and metallic and sharp and makes me feel like i need to get more Pepto as my tummy is not happy with me. in about a minute and a half, it has faded away and i take another sip to be sure i was right. i am. i don’t think it is quite as bad as the regular root beer, but still, it is awful. which, again, is a shame. i think stevia could be a good thing still, but i have yet to bear witness to it being so. oh well, at least this time i only have this one can instead of having to pawn off the five extras on people who like diet sodas. that is one silver lining of this disgusting soda.
i really am curious just who enjoys this stuff? or who taste tests it, deciding they should spend a great deal of money producing, canning and distributing it. does King’s (the only big store i know that carries it) actually have someone who tastes this stuff or was it some bizarre customer demand? i don’t get it. but, to each their own.

Stevia is VILE. I just slammed a product that Amazon sent me for review that contains stevia; I took a swig, spit it out, and poured the rest of the can down the drain. Blecch. :O~ (I call that a “vomiticon.”)
It’s hard for me to believe that Stevia is the problem. I sweeten coffee and tea with Stevia all the time. I’ve heard that if you put too much that it tastes bitter, but I have never experienced that. If it is the Stevia, it must have a different interaction with root beer ingredients than it does with coffee/tea. I agree that this drink is not great, but I do like Stevia.
Hey Anthony,
Thanks for giving us a try; we’re sorry you didn’t enjoy our ginger root beer– soda should taste good! We get plenty of fans who tell us they love our flavors, but it’s even more helpful to hear from people who don’t! We’ll definitely take your comments into account. Thanks again for giving us a second chance, and we hope you’ll try and like our other flavors in the future!
Best,
Team Zevia
I love Zevia ginger root beer! I havent tried the other flavors yet, but I am a Coke addict and this is the only thing that has gotten me to stop craving coke. I think the taste is light, refreshing and sweet. If you are comparing it to a Barq’s root beer which is very heavy, then you wont like it. But if you are looking for a lighter soda fix, this is good.
Wow, this stuff is horrid. My wife said it was disgusting. I gave this a 5, I dont know how the two people that graded it gave it a 100.
People who don’t normally consume large amounts of sugar and or high fructose corn syrup, as found in “regular” sodas, are able to enjoy zevia’s light sweetness. If you are a sugar/HFCS junkie, zevia will have an odd taste at first and repeated exposure to it will enable your god forsaken taste buds to pick out the sweetness. Zevia sodas are not known for intense flavors compared to regular soda. They are highly sought after for their lack of chemicals, sugar, caffine and for being an over all healthier option for people who enjoy soda. I love these sodas, they are fantastic!
