this may be cheating a bit. i am pretty sure this has nothing to do with root beer, birch beer or sarsaparilla. but i was recently ordering from Old 52 and saw this soda which they describe as “…the taste of spruce beer with a subtle fruity undertone.” so to me, that qualifies this as a rooty carbonated beverage. upon tasting it though i think i was wrong. oh well, whatever, i will go with it.
i like the one spruce beer i have had, it was very wintergreen and pine tasting, which worked in my mouth quite well. so i figured this would taste similar. afterall, mistletoe seems like it is evergreen-like, much like a pine tree. but this is not so much like that. no sir. i can taste a bit of pine in the undertone, but on the whole it is a lemon/lime type soda. when i really concentrate on it, i can see the spruce comparison i suppose yet it is not the first thing that springs to mind. i would say this is more of a limeade taste with some fruit, maybe strawberry thrown in. i enjoy it, but it isn’t my usual thing. or not this site’s usual thing. but it is christmas and i will make an exception of sorts for that and include it. plus i am running a bit low on sodas to review so stretching the bounds a touch may be needed. i do have another year and a half of reviews written or ready to be written but my prospects are dwindling. feel free to contact me with any sodas you can get that i have not reviewed. please! or if you are in Canada or the UK, there are lots there i’d love to have.
