again i used my soda siphon and the directions on the company’s website to mix this up. actually last time i did not do the “shake vigorously for 30 seconds” part after carbonation. i tried that this go around though and now it has a ridiculous head that even Eric would be proud of. =) this time though it is very weak. so i adjusted it. the directions say 1/4 to 1/2 tsp for a liter of water, but this extract bottle makes 2.5 gallons where root beer #1 made 5 gallons and i used 1.25 tsp. so i figured i really needed 2.5 tsp and had drank about half already so i added another tsp. ok, that is better.
this is supposed to be the “old fashioned” version, like old Dads or Hires. i could see that. it is much less spicy and complex than formula #1 was. nonetheless it is more spiced than Hires or Dads (olds or new). it is more of an addition to that general “old fashioned” flavor, slapping in a bit more complexity. not a lot though. enough to be its own soda and not a clone of the old brands.
