Walgreen’s seems to have re-branded many of their products, including their house brands. the Walgreen’s soda is now Nice! soda and the Deerfield stuff is now D-Lish. personally i like the first change just fine but the second one is for the worse. but no matter, i am sure i will get into that more when i review D-Lish Root Beer at some point. i can probably safely assume that this is exactly the same as the old Walgreen’s Root Beer but i will not do that as i would then have less sodas to review. don’t ask, don’t tell. if i know it is the same thing, i will violate my policy of reviewing the same soda twice even if the name is different. although that more applies to vanity labels and multiple sodas that exist concurrently that are really the same. anyway, moving on…
what worries me here is that the flavoring is almost the last ingredient. thus it has more preservative than flavor. and more color. well, perhaps it is just very potent flavor? yes, that must be it.
the design is much better than their old labels, so that is a step up. it is still pretty generic looking, just 2 colors, but still, that is fine and gets the point across. i just noticed now that the best by date is today. funny. although i don’t quite buy that, soda should keep longer than that as i did not buy this all that long ago. i had a bottle of Bulldog this weekend which i have had for probably at least 7 years and it was perfect. but that was in glass so that does make a difference.
so drinking it… actually this is decent. for a generic soda i kind of like it. it has an herbal feel to it that works. a little harsh but not too bad. i would probably get this before canned A&W or Mug, definitely before Barq’s. overall it is mainly generic, kind of heavy and syrupy in a not so great way but that added herbal tinge makes it better.
i actually have no idea what i said about the old version so let me see… hhhmmm, similar overall but a worse rating. oh well, tastes change in the 10 years since i wrote that.

According to the nutritional information there is 1 mg more sodium in this than the original Walgreens Root Beer so something has to be different.
I have walgreens all over the place, This stuff is generic. I gave it a 50, and I would take A and W from any store over this any day.
