big8 Root Beer

this soda is very hard to find anything about. from what i can tell Big 8 beverages is owned by Sobeys, who own a whole a lot of grocery stores in Canada like Price Chopper, IGA, Foodland and so on. i gather that this line though is only sold in Atlantic Canada, which is an area designation i have not heard of before. perhaps i am just a ridiculous American though. in the end, i have no clue really where you can buy this. i got it in my trade with the mighty Red, who i always picture as a viking of some sort. which is strange since my wife and children are redheads and i call her “Red” all the time but she is far from a viking. anyway, i digress.
i am surprised by the lack of carbonation here. it could be a bum bottle, but i will go with it being the norm. it does expire tomorrow i just noticed so i suppose it is good i picked this one next to drink. although that would be super excellent timing on their part to have it go virtually flat right on time. but the picture on the label is the usual mug with foam pouring over the edges and there is no way that would happen with the soda in this bottle. the taste itself is actually kind of fruity, which seems to be a trend in Canadian root beers. or at least the store brand ones i have had so far. curious. i wonder if that is the “standard” for up north. i have gotten A&W in Canada so i know it is there, being its standard self. yet that may not matter to their snowy, Tim Horton’s loving, poutine consuming pallets. i don’t mind fruity root beers too much, but on the grand scale, they fall below many other types. this fruitiness could be construed as herbal in a way i suppose but that is not how it comes off to me. so it is ok, no great shakes, but not terrible. that is about what i’d expect from a store brand though.
