Etna Brewing Co. Root Beer

there has been a very long string of root beers lately with non twist off caps. which is unusual. perhaps because most of what i reviewed lately has been root beers from breweries and they seem more likely to go that route for whatever reason. but still i don’t think i have ever gotten more than two in a row, but it is at least four or five now. #rootbeerreviewproblems not a real problem, just something i noticed as i have to find my bottle opener every time. on with the show!
the design is fine. a little busy but overall it is alright. you have your browns and gold and some nature thing (an eagle in this case) as seems to happen often these days.
i must say i like the slogan of “get back to your roots” for a root beer that is trying to be “olde style.” they kind of pound it in a lot of times too, “old fashioned,” “what root beer used to be,” “good ol’ taste” as well as the two aformentioned things. fine fine, you want to be historically accurate. that is always a weird thing since what time period are you talking about? i’d guess the pre-Hires days, with roots and bark and junk actually used. what that tastes like really i don’t know. but it might be like this. it is very licorice heavy and very rooty tasting. perhaps overly so a little bit. it is a very complex and rich, strong flavor that one can sip and really take in. you could chug it down but that seems a waste. it reminds me a lot of Appalachian Brewing Co Root Beer, which is one of my favorites of all time. yet this one goes a step too far in the anise/licorice area that pushes it down in the ratings. it really has little to no head despite decent carbonation levels. whatever, probably less foamy when you make a float with it this way i suppose.
