Crooked Oak Root Beer

I have been after this soda for a while so I was super excited when Sagi offered it up in a trade. I must say their website is among the least informative i have ever seen. the “about” page is very much like the start of a weird text adventure computer game from 1989. i think that is good. it is entertaining at least. the label seems to indicate that this stuff is made in very small batches and it may vary in how it comes out. I got production code LV6101 and batch number 9567 but that info is probably on every bottle and only appears to be semi-hand written. so they are mysterious. fine. do they make good soda?
it’s ok. after all that hype and curiosity raising, i got my hopes up a bit perhaps? i don’t think so, i am pretty neutral when i go into a new review these days. it is a fine soda. it does not fit the generic form exactly, there is some extra spice in there, a little cinnamon, some anise perhaps, so that sets it apart. and it is solid, but it is not a “wow” drink. those don’t come along all that much anyhow, but i had high hopes here. there are so many really good, not quite great root beers out there, this one gets lost in the shuffle. for me at least, almost 700 reviews in. if this is what you have available locally, then you will probably enjoy it quite a bit.

  1. Wow, I too felt very similar about this one. I also gave it a very close score of 83; because this one is not bad at all. In fact, I’ll probably try it again very soon. To me this one tastes a bit more “natural” than other root beers. It had a unique “natural” flavor to it, in my opinion. I felt this was more of a sharp flavored root beer; rather than a creamy root beer. I could not purchase this by the case, but this one is good enough to get every once in a a while. I think I tried their cream soda or ginger ale – and it was pretty good…..whichever one I tried. Not a bad soda company at all.
