so yet again, Tommyknocker have changed their recipe. although this time it seems to be a move towards being more ‘natural’ and ‘organic’ and all of that hippy dippy stuff. which, mind you, i fully support. i was not in love with their previous two recipes, they were fine and had potential, but did not quite deliver. any root beer with maple syrup is very intriguing to me i will admit. i feel like there has to be a good way to make it work with root beer.
this is a bit better than the last iterations to my taste buds. i believe it could be due to me focusing on the maple syrup aspect of it. if i forget about that for a moment and just take a drink, it is a little less enjoyable. also, the first sip is not as good as subsequent ones. strange. if i let the flavor fully dissipate from my palette, it is again not as yummy until i take another swig soon after. at first it is very herbal, strong tastes of clove and anise, then it is more sweet, maple syrup and smooth vanilla. i don’t think i’ve encountered a soda that does that. it also has a very long lasting foamy head, which older versions lacked. i think this is an improvement, both as far as taste and impact on the planet.
