i like the cut of this company’s jib. they seem to be harkening back to a time when apothecaries sold sodas and there were strange little decorations on the packaging or advertising or whatever of said places. the claim is ‘since 1937’ and the story on the website of the originator seems to back it up, although it could all be false. they do not really mention if the sodas were made at the apothecaries for the entire period or just a short time, but i will trust that this has been a consistent product, just recently bottled. it is impressive if they were an actual apothecary until recently as well, not many of those around.
in any case, how the soda actually tastes is the important thing here! it is not bad at all! but then again it is not wow amazing or standing out from the crowded field at this level. it is very smooth, quite creamy and has a little bit of an herbal taste on the normal root beer, sassafras type flavor. i hoped for something that really focused on the herbal stuff but this drink played it safe and didn’t do that. it is still good and deserving of drinking but i don’t love it and i’d rather not have bought a whole case, but it is what it is.
