Virgil’s Microbrewed Rootbeer

ah! this one i reviewed many years ago. it was one of the first sodas i tried and i had very high hopes for it based on all of the accolades they advertise on the bottle and packaging. but i really did not like it much at all. perhaps it was a less mature pallet or tastes have changed or the recipe itself changed but in the intervening years i have gotten this drink and thought it was rather tasty. recently i checked the ingredients and saw they had indeed changed from that first review so it officially, by anthony review code #22.1b, can be reviewed again. granted it is just the addition of citric acid and there being some sodium in there now, but they are very vague anyway, with the ‘herbs’ and ‘spices’ and all which could be so many things. the funny thing is, they recently got bought out and changed the ingredients again, so there will be another review of it in the next year or so most likely.
let us see how this is, with a critical eye (or well, mostly tongue and nose really). this is a very complex drink, obviously. the first flavor is actually not good, it is this fruity icky taste. but that slowly fades into a more robust herbal flavor which i enjoy more. this taste also turns into an anise tinged thing which i also like. so i like it in part and don’t like it kind of more. it still kind of tastes like it went bad at first and i find it hard to get past that. it has gotten a little bit warm over the course of my musing and it just tastes much worse warm. oh well, i guess i was not too far off in my initial review 22 years back. but i don’t think it is as bad as i thought back then.
