the fantastical gourmet was kind enough to send this my way in a trade. it is thrilling and amazing to get new bottled or canned sodas but there is something extra special about getting a soda that is only available at one place in the whole world. or even just two or three places or whatever. getting a growler in the mail is super cool! I hope to repay him one day but there just don’t seem to be any places near me where I can obtain such things easily and quickly. or even slowly and with effort.
it is very rad that this brewery actually has growlers just for their soda! or at least they print ‘CRAFT SODA’ on the bottle. most breweries seem to make the soda a total after thought. so that makes me think they put effort into the root beer itself as well. or perhaps not… well, I can’t say that. this reminds me a lot of some of the root beers I have made from extracts. now I will assume they did not do that, but it is possible. it starts off rather sharp, from both carbonation and flavor. but happily that fades away quickly to a spicy, vanilla taste that is decent. then it fades more slowly to a mellow sassafras, caramel flavor. it is a good soda yet not great. the end taste is the best one for me. the start is not too pleasant and the middle is better yet very crowded with anise, cinnamon and sassafras it seems. I salute their efforts and still find it awesome that they make this.
