I think I found this one from a post on facebook from Root Beer World. They are a fine site, you should go check them out. they are one of the other oldest root beer sites out there. I assumed they had stopped for a while there, maybe 5 years or more, but lately they have been back more than ever, so that is very cool. anyway, I should get back to the point here. I was super happy to find out about a new soda which I had no idea existed. it seems no one else I knew was aware of it either, so I bought a case and sent some of it all around the country. or actually I still have to do that for most of it. I am not always so good at doing that unfortunately.
I am not sure who Freddie is. I will go look it up. so this is made by the Buffalo Trace Distillery and Freddie is one of their long time tour guides and a third generation employee! huh. interesting stuff indeed. they say this is old fashioned but making it with high fructose corn sweetener and/or cane sugar isn’t too old fashioned. well maybe at this point when high fructose corn sweetener is phased out a lot.
this is one of those drinks that generates tons of foam when you drink it. it seems all harmless and calm but you take a sip and out it down and foam pours over the top. I don’t like that, it was lucky I had a napkin nearby.
from the website description of this as “…an old-fashioned soda made with natural herbs, real oil of birch and imported vanilla” I really though this would be a distinct, unusual soda, but it is pretty standard. which is fine. it is a good standard. frankly I do not taste the birch oil at all though. the vanilla is very prominent though. it is a very creamy drink which becomes more creamy as you drink more. maybe the vanilla settles? so a very foamy, very creamy root beer is what we have here. it will do but I’d rather it do more.
