Rocket Fizz Double Barrel Root Beer

when I went to Rocket Fizz a couple months ago, this was actually one of the things I must was looking for. I actually thought that they filled it there for you, which in hindsight doesn’t make the most sense but would in fact be much cooler. they would have to have kegs of the stuff or perhaps run a fountain system or something. but growlers are known to not stay carbonated for very long after filling, so having them arrive from somewhere else, pre-filled, would kind of be a weird move in itself. they would most likely be flat before it was even out on the shelf. unless they really sealed it well. which I assumed they must have done. but I was wrong. completely wrong. they just put a standard screw cap on here and dumped wax over it. which looks cool, granted, put doesn’t really help keep in the CO2. this is the long way of saying this soda is very flat. once I figured out how to take off the top without peeling off all the wax, I did not hear that oh so satisfying hiss of escaping trapped air. alas. technically I could throw some of it in my seltzer bottle thing and add bubbles, but I just mixed up an extract this morning which is chilling in there so I can’t really do that. thus I will just go with this one as is, where is (as the eBay sellers of awesome schools for sale seem to say all too often from hundreds of miles away.) they did get more usage out of that wax seal stamp thing though.
it really is a shame this is not carbonated as it is pretty yummy. well, in that standard root beer way. right now it tastes a lot like letting a root beer barrel candy melt in your mouth. i suppose that explains the name although the shot gun casing on the label would lead one to infer they had another meaning in mind. double entendre perhaps? it is highly sweet, a little spiced and actually very dark. so it is ok. it is good for someone looking for a regular root beer, if you buy it quickly after its arrival at the store and you really want to pay $17 when it tastes pretty much like A&W or Mugg. I am glad I tried it and probably won’t do so again.
