Barq’s Craft Soda Root Beer

another thing found by the stately Gourmet on his journeys to our northern neighbor, Canada! he was very excited to find this different recipe of Barq’s up in the great white north, and I was very excited that he got a bottle for me and sent it my way as well! I am not sure the reasoning behind why this stuff is different. they also sell the normal recipe stuff in Canada. perhaps it is some sort of test market thing. trying a craft soda version of Barq’s? or maybe it is a thing where there are new guidelines coming so they are getting ready? I just made that up so I have no idea or justification for that idea. anyway, the reason matters little to me in the end as I have a new root beer to drink and that right there is the important thing.
I will admit I do not drink Barq’s much at all. occasionally I will order root beer at a restaurant and get Barq’s when I don’t really want it so I mostly drink my water. that is due to the caffeine and when we go out to eat it is usually dinner time so if I have caffeine then I won’t be sleeping for too many hours after. as it is only 2 pm now I hope/think I will be ok for tonight. so yeah, I have some idea of what normal Barq’s tastes like and this tastes quite similar. that same icky ‘bite’ of harsh carbonation is there along with a little licorice and some standard root beer flavors. I wouldn’t get it again given the choice but it is not the worst. it is a big better than the regular version I believe, yet still sub-par. i mostly don’t like the bite but overall it is not great either.
