Hank’s Gourmet Philadelphia Recipe Root Beer

the folks at Hank’s notriced I had not reviewed their sodas since they changed the recipe to use only cane sugar sometime back, which I never realized myself actually, and offered to send some my way to get a new review going. that is so very kind of them. of course it will not influence this review at all.
they also changed their whole bottle and design in the past 23 years, crazy as that sounds! I quite like what they did. it looks much more upscale, fancy and, dare I say, gourmet! from the embossed “Hank’s” and small label area as well to the metallic style labels to the unique and cool bottle shape, they really did it up here. yet what matters is if it is good. but the thing is, it is not good, it is in fact excellent! this is much better than I recall Hank’s being when I last had it. I do actually get it occasionally at pizza places or whatever when I see it but it is possible I have not had it at all since they changed recipes. the head is strong, the body is hearty and solid but not heavy. the flavor is creamy, caramelly and sweet with the right mix of rooty herbs to hit your pallet in the good way. I am not saying they are breaking new ground here, but when you want a very solid example of what micro brewed, root beer is expected to taste like.
