Abita Root Beer

well, the ingredients have changed on this one since I reviewed it 23 years ago. although I believe the Abita folk say it has not changed since they started the company making this root beer. which might be the case and they are now more accurate with their listing? I don’t know. but to my mind, this is a new root beer.
they have spread and expanded their brand a lot in those many years as well. you can find this soda in many place near in the Northeast these days. I would say it is the most prevalent root beer on tap in New York City in my limited experiences. which is not to say it is that common really but for a soda not made in this region, it is common.
despite that I don’t think I have I have actually had this all that often except when I was in Louisiana, which is also a good 14 or so years ago. so I can safely say it has been quite some time.
the old version was the 3rd soda I ever reviewed I believe, or at least it is #3 in my database. in that time my root beer knowledge has increased a bit so this probably doesn’t stack up as well as it used to. it is rather sharply carbonated which distracts from the taste. that flavor is not the best, or worst. it is just sort of normal. perhaps it is over carbonated really.
