Polar Root Beer

hhhhmmmm, now that I am home and looking at this, it is somewhat debatable that this is a new soda. I will assume it is as the nutrition info is different from when I reviewed it in 1997. if they did not change it in 24 years, that is quite a feat in itself. although this seems to be around often in supermarkets I would venture to guess I have not had it actually since that review so many years ago. I would say that makes my mind pretty open and fresh on the subject. Polar has been making soda since 1882, wow, that is impressive! that would be much longer than many of the nostalgia brands, yet no one ever brings up Polar , at least that I have seen during such discussions. I am going to have to look into this more. I’d assume they were glass bottled at one point. I mean beyond their semi-recent attempt to get into the premium, more gourmet market.
so this soda…. I don’t know, it ok. really it seems watered down both in flavor and carbonation. it comes across like a soda that has been sitting in a glass with ice in it for a while, the ice melting a bunch and the bubbles going away in large part. it tastes like a generic root beer beyond that. for $1 or whatever I paid for this I actually could have gotten something better I imagine. I am not saying it is bad, it just is. it’s there, it’s ok, it might satisfy some slight root beer craving if nothing else is around, but a store brand root beer probably would fit the bill at least as well if not better. but hey, you get the fun liter bottle here, you don’t see that often!
ok, so now that I am about done I looked at my old review and yeah, this tastes nothing like I described back then. I think I really did have a bad bottle that time. oh well, now I know where life went wrong!
