fairly recently there was a lot of hoopla and hullabaloo about the opening of a new supermarket near me. “it is like Aldi, but better!” “Germans really know how to make a good supermarket!” but I did not go. I don’t really go to Aldi much at all either, except when they have a new root beer or I am super bored. it just does not have enough variety of the stuff I need every week. or so I tend to think. they very well could. maybe this week I will try it and see. but anyway, why go to Lidl for any other reason than for root beer either? so yeah, that was what brought me there and I came away with two new ones, to me at least. my question is do Germans even know what root beer is, let alone how to make a good one?! well I will soon find out.
at least they have the normal root beer color palette down I suppose, rocking the orange and brown here. the label isn’t the best but it is a store brand, so I expect generic-ness there. now let’s get down to the drink, which is why we are all gathered here today anyway! it is not bad but I won’t be getting it again. it has this bitter, sharp taste to it that wrecks the other flavors which could be ok underneath. if I try to ignore that part it is alright. when I drink more than sharp taste goes away, so these last few swallows are better but it does not make up for the first two thirds or so of the bottle. some might consider this drink to have a “bite” and enjoy that but I don’t want to be bitten while drinking soda frankly.

I saw the Craft Soda Root Beer at Lidl and thought why not try it. Real Cane Sugar, a good price, so my to my surprise i liked it and will buy it again. Is it spectacular? No, but it’s a lot better than a lot of highly rated root beers out there. Easy to find and does taste good enough for my root beer craving. None of the weird creations some have, this is a very basic root beer taste, which is the point, right?
