one of the good things to come out of facebook is the root beer hunters group. a bunch of us crazy folk show our latest findings and trade the extras we get. one of those fine people is Vince who found this one and sent me a bottle very kindly! apparently Sendik’s in a grocery store chain in the mid-west of the United States. I have never heard of it myself but I also have not really spent any time in Wisconsin.
most often when store brands go premium they still stick to the usual thing, kind of generic but tasty. Sendik’s goes along the same road, but ventures a bit off course. they start with the root beer taste, creamy and smooth with sassafras, some vanilla and they throw in a bit of spices, a little cinnamon, a hint of nutmeg. they don’t do anything crazy but they tried some. well, a little. not all that much. I mean it tastes like a load of other sodas out there and I would not be surprised to find out it really is another soda with their labels, but at the very least it is the super generic root beer flavor and you can pick out the extra spices and such.
so after a bit of a Google, I found this is made by Sprecher. as the nutrition info does not match up with any of the other Sprecher root beers I have had I am assuming this is indeed a unique recipe, which is a relief. also strangely I reviewed this several years ago but just realized I did not ever finish and hence never published it, but now seems as good a time as any to put it up, so here it is world, enjoy!!
