once more a trade result, this time from the gourmet doctor himself. it seems in 1972, A&W in Canada was bought by Unilever thus separating from A&W in the USA, at least as far as the restaurants go. I have always been a little unclear on if the soda and restaurant are fully connected but it seems they are. supposedly the A&W restaurants in Canada are vastly superior to almost any other fast food chain. I have only been to a couple in the United States and they are not really anything special or even particularly good. the consensus seems divided on the root beer as well, but seems to be that the Canadian one is better. so let’s find out!
um, hhmmm, I am not a big fan of this. there is not a lot of flavor and what is here is just a kind of unpleasant bitter thing. below that is a little bit of a root beer flavor, some creaminess. yet that is overwhelmed by far by the ick taste. it can be drank and is not really terrible, more just innocuous. I could drink it and not think about it and be ok with it but when I pay attention and take sips it just is not tasty. it looks nice, has a good long lasting head and color and all. I applaud them for using cane sugar and natural flavors (which can mean anything really, bugs, anal gland secretions, wolverine blood), but in the end it is not a very good soda.
