Busy Bees Root Beer

I feel like there is a new wave of craft root beers coming out these days. or perhaps I am just getting more word of such things as people come together on social media even more. or maybe there happen to be more that are canned or bottled lately. or some combination of all of the above, which is more likely really I think. in any case, I was lucky enough to obtain some of this root beer made by Crider Brewing in St Louis, MO. or maybe 2nd Shift Brewing? I’m not quite clear on that. I should probably call this ‘Crider Brewing Busy Bees Root Beer’ because of this but unless they come out with multiple root beers or related drinks with totally different names which I then need to tie together, I feel like it is more identified without the brewery name. they only really mention it very small on the side of the label anyway, so yeah, I am going with this.
they mention real sugar on the front of the label but it is not in the ingredient list. the only sweetener mentioned is glycerin which I don’t think I have ever seen before, especially not as the sole sweet thing. really I think this is a mistake. it has 35g of added sugar in the nutrition info which is kind of a lot. seeing as how glycerin is only about 60% as sweet as sugar and more caloric, it is possible. I had hoped with a name like ‘Busy Bees’ that honey would be involved somehow but alas, it is not. this is also the only thing i have ever seen that has less grams of carbohydrates than it has grams of sugar. that’s magic of some sort
the biggest aspect of this drink’s flavor profile is the carbonation. i feel like I have harped on this a lot in my reviews lately but it really affects my experience a lot. with this one I am hit with a blast of slightly bitter carbonation right off that leaves me burping for a good while after. ok, yeah, that part if not the worst but I can’t taste the soda quite enough. what taste that does come through is alright. nothing risky or unexpected. I am all for supporting small businesses so I would get this over the big brands on principal, it is not too different in taste. still it is better than orange soda or any vile cream soda out there.

I’m guessing glycerine qualifies as “real sugar,” which just sounds weird to me. If I run across it, I’ll likely pass.
