Fieldwork Brewing Root Beer

and the random brewery root beer find continue! I do believe I was tipped off about this one from the facebook Root Beer Hunters of America group, which I am again eternally grateful for. occasionally I will have the time and the will to scour the interwebs for new brews but both of those quantities seem to be in less and less supply these days so when others help out I am very thankful.
the design of this one is fun and different. it reminds me of a botany field guide with drawings of what I assume are the plants that are in this beverage. actually I had not even thought of that until just now when I typed that. although I did notice vanilla beans and cinnamon sticks among the plants, I cannot say I know what sassafras or other such leaves look like. yes I did get my Boy Scout merit badge for such things, but that was well over 30 years ago so cut me a little slack. I even went back to their website to look at the ginger ale can design as I know better what ginger looks like just to be more certain.
anyway, for some reason there is not a lot of flavor to this beverage. there is a bitter front end that is sort of reminiscent of a normal root beer taste but it doesn’t really go anywhere else and it is not particularly tasty. I wouldn’t dump it out but I also would not get it again, even if I was in their establishment. I would try that aforementioned ginger ale I think if I was ever in that situation. the carbonation is fine and the sweetness is decent although 27g of sugar is quite low. I wouldn’t call it a sweet drink though so that makes sense. I suppose for something that verges on diet with 110 calories (if 54% of your daily sugar counts as diet), this is not a bad choice.
