Old Town Root Beer Company Root Beer

this company intrigues me. they are doing stuff i just did not think very possible. they started a root beer restaurant. not just that, they franchised it and have like 5 or so locations. and they still exist, at least when i write this, a couple years after starting. plus they have 5 of their own sodas, three root beers, a diet and a sarsaparilla. very interesting indeed.
and a very tasty soda too. intriguing also i must add. the taste is very varied, it changes completely from hitting the tongue until several seconds later. the start is a pretty regular root beer taste, but then it is a little sharp, lots of carbonation racing to get down your gullet first and scraping up the back of your mouth. as the bubbles pop and disappear it slowly fades into a rich and smooth vanilla taste. i like it. upon first taste, i loved it but as i drink more i think it is an excellent root beer but not quite an amazing one. they have set the bar high though for their other offerings, i hope they live up to expectations.

for a place that so prominently displays their website and junk, you would think they would be more prepared to handle mail order requests but it was a bit of a challenge to try to get some. plus they had no list of what sodas they had so they asked me to send them the list of what i had had. i did and the next time they called they were rather amused and said they don’t have anything else for me. oh well. so i traded with Jon to get some.
i also find it funny that the ingredients say “natural and OTHER flavors” (emphasis mine). ok, so it is other than natural, so it is artificial, right? i guess that is something they want to avoid on their labels though. oh well.

  2. I just clicked on the link to the website and it came up saying, server not found. I wonder if they still have the website. Let me know if you try it if it works. Thanks, Rick b

I to see that their website is gone. Another one hits the dust.

  4. this surprises me! they seemed quite successful and prosperous… strange. well, perhaps the site is just down. we shall see.

Definitely looks like the website is gone. I picked some up at Cost Plus World Market today, so if anybody is looking for it, try there!

  6. Was not impressed with this root beer at all. It has a pretty ok root beer flavor up front, but it’s the aftertaste that really kills it. The after taste tastes like an “artificially flavored vanilla crayon”. That’s the best that I could put it. The aftertaste is definitely the thing that kills this root beer. Of all the crayon tasting root beers this one is almost the worst, falling short to Bedford’s crayon tasting root beer. Due to the decent flavor Old Town Root Beer has, I’d have to give it a 66. This is one I won’t be buying any time soon.

  7. I finally found a bottle of this at the old world market store, I sadly gave this a 60 and was disappointed with this.

  8. When I tried this and said I dont like it, I might have had a bad batch. I’m drinking some of this right now and really like it, I boosted my rate to 85.

  9. I just got done trying this again. If you put it inside a frosted mug, it actually tastes pretty alright. I’ll up my score to an 80 for this one. It does still have a slight crayon flavor though.
