so they changed their recipe from when i first reviewed this drink. gone is the beet sugar which they seemed quite proud of, instead replaced with cane sugar. i contacted the company to confirm and also to try to get a mixed flavor case and they were kind enough to send it to me for reviewing! very cool! i kind of hope hey changed the overall recipe of this one a bit as well. i love birch beer so I was sad that the old recipe was not so good.
perhaps I am more forgiving today but i feel like this is better. it is still harsh and very sharp but it is not terrible. it isn’t good necessarily either. it seems to be a combination of the chosen ‘natural flavors’ being very woodsy and almost bitter along with a very rough carbonation style which make it not so great. the bubbles take over and hide the real taste if you drink it soon after opening. if you let it sit a bit, the carbonation dies down, but the flavor behind it is not so wonderful. it lacks the usual wintergreen yumminess of most birch beers. i do wish it were better. i love their label and general vibe but for me it still isn’t great, sadly.
