Fuddy Duddy’s Soda Works Sarsaparilla

I suspect this is a private label thing but there is not much indication of that. the label says “made exclusively for Fuddy Duddy’s confectionery” but not by who or explain further what that means. so I will just go on the assumption that it is a recipe exclusive to them. unfortunately the seal on this was not great so the carbonation is extremely low. I think I have a second bottle so I will have to try it again and update this if it is different.
this is one of those drinks that really tastes more like a sweet tea that tries to pass as a root beer, or in this case a sarsaparilla. now, don’t get me wrong, I like sweet tea. I would drink it more often if the caffeine did not keep me awake much too long. yet it is not what I am looking for when I grab a soda. non-robust sarsaparillas are also not really my jam. I realize that sort of goes against my whole “root beer can be so many things” bandwagon, but then again this is not a root beer. so perhaps I am more of a snob about what I think a sarsaparilla should be? could be. but in the end I just prefer a more hearty, heavy drink as a sarsaparilla. this is light and something I could just drink down easily. in that way I like it, it is smooth. there is a bit of a herbal thing happening, some rooty flavor, but it is not strong. this is more a thirst quenching beverage in my mind, less a sipping, savoring thing. both types have their place, I just enjoy the latter more in most situations.
