at some point since I first reviewed Boylan’s Diet Root Beer nine or so years ago they changed the recipe. that might be a good thing, right? I mean it is Boylan’s. they do stuff well. especially on the second try. like their normal root beer which was rather bad on the initial take but after revision was rather tasty. but it is a diet soda, so can it actually be good?
the answer right up front is, well, no, this is not good. often a diet drink is ok at first and then the aftertaste hits and it is not so good. but this is kind of bad the whole time. it starts off bitter and rather watery, then the bitterness fades and it is just watery but then the metallic taste takes over and maintains a while. it tastes a little like root beer somewhere in there. but on the whole it just is not a good drink. I am sad to say that, I had wanted it to be good. I know Boylan’s can do better than this. I am glad I don’t have to drink diet drinks all the time. but if I did I still wouldn’t pick this one.
