as a habit when i go into stores, i often try to cruise down the soda aisle if it is convenient. just to see… one never knows when you will be surprised with a new soda. especially at Rite Aid i guess. normally i go to Walgreen’s myself, but i was at my in-laws and needed some milk for the baby or a bottle or something, so i went to the local Rite Aid. now, this Rite Aid had just been redone, half of it was all GNC it seemed, trying for some different appeal i guess to set themselves apart. that is all well and good although i doubt the clerks at Rite Aid know much about the GNC stuff they now have to sell. but then again, do the people at the real GNC know too much either? anyway, this soda has nothing to do with GNC and there was no valid reason to even bring that up in hindsight. in any case i spotted this and bought it, very excitedly. along with whatever i went there for and i think a dark chocolate Clark bar, which i see much too un-often. (oh, c’mon spell checker, how is “un-often” not a word?!) well, as excited as i can be for a very generic looking store brand soda.
i must admit i don’t like reviewing sodas that only come 2 liter or larger bottles. it is unwieldy really. i have the right side of the bottom shelf of my kitchen fridge reserved for sodas to review. but 2L bottles are too tall for that shelf so it gets put somewhere else. and it takes up too much space somewhere else so it gets moved a lot. this one actually got taken in and out of the fridge at least 5 times for different lengths of time when we needed fridge room until today when i am finally reviewing it.
the label makes it look like a diet drink to me, i guess white backgrounds and lower case letters imply that in my head? they venture away from the usual frost mug look of others and go with a photo of a slightly bubbly glass with a straw in it. interesting choice.
so it should not be too surprised after that photo to find out that the drink itself is not so bubbly in reality. that is not the worst thing, but it does not help the cause either. the head is non-existent as a result of that.
the taste is alright. generic down a notch. sweet enough. a little less than i would have expected. it is better than the Rite Aid Big Fizz which is the only thing worse than something that comes exclusively in a 2L bottle, the 3L only soda! aaahhhh!
