Propeller Root Beer

when i was first approached by Red to do a root beer trade, this was one brand he offered up, knowing full well that i very much needed it as he read my “sodas i need” section over on the right there. =) i don’t know a lot about Canadian root beers, but occasionally i stumble across info on one and get excited but a little sad since the chance of me getting it is pretty low. but really, there is just as much chance i will go to Nova Scotia as Nebraska i would think in reality so i should not get to down after all.
i like the bottle shape here, it is unique. there is a little indentation on the neck as it approaches the wide part. it reminds me some of the crazy aerodynamic triathlon wheels i always covet. i don’t think this bottle went through any wind tunnel testing but it is nice to see something different.
the label itself is pretty good too although i feel like it tries to blend too much in one thing, with the big propeller and then the old time kid & dog. the style of them does not mesh too well. the propeller and text are very sharp and line drawn while the boy and dog are more a slightly blurred painting. whatever.
the taste is ok. it is not unique as i had hoped for with the bottle shape and canada-ness and all. it starts pretty mellow and a little sharp in the carbonation but quickly fades to a caramel sweetness with a dash of creaminess to carry it. that sounds better than it is. it is fine, not wonderful and far from bad. i would definitely get it if i was up north and saw it but it is not a soda i’d specifically mail order or travel far just to get.
