sarsaparillas

Schweppes Sarsaparilla

a soda I have been waiting to review! the first review of 2024 seems like a good enough occasion to me so here goes! the brave and tireless gourmet, doctor Eric provided me with this one from his travels across the globe! this is especially kind as he does not review either plastic bottle sodas or sarsaparillas so he had to bring this large, heavy bottle across oceans to send it to me! so thank you once again kind sir.
others don’t seem to enjoy the Australian take on sarsaparilla but I myself have found it rather tasty in the past. I had no idea Schweppes had an international presence, let alone made a sarsaparilla unique to one market. I have always thought of them as pretty much a ginger ale, tonic water & seltzer company. but apparently they make lots of other flavors in other areas of the world. granted they are owned by Coca Cola at this point but the company itself dates back to 1783. that is quite exciting and interesting. huh.
the sarsaparilla flavor is strong on this drink! i like that! woo! quite herbal and strong. there is a pretty strong licorice flavor going on there as well which is also enjoyable for me. despite being in a plastic bottle, this is one of the better sarsaparillas I have had in quite a while. the carbonation is more low key and contributes to the flavor profile instead of distracting from it. Schweppes really should expand their flavor offerings in the US, especially since so any would not overlap with Coke products available here now.
