this is one of the trickier sodas i have had to review. i mean, a soda you just drink, that is easy. there there are syrups, you just mix it with seltzer and drink up, not too hard. extracts are a little worse, you mix the extract with sugar and water in the prescribed amounts then carbonate it up. but this one, this is a concentrate i guess, you have to make it into a syrup by mixing the water and sugar and then further mixing some of that with more water and carbonating the whole batch. i could have mixed that syrup with pre-made seltzer but i had none so that was easier in the end.
after all of that, this is not too bad. it is definitely better and more distinct than the root beer was. it has more of an herbal taste to it that borders on a medicinal thing, but not in a bad way, if it is possible for a medicinal taste to be good? i would think not, but in this case it does work. when i imagine a sarsaparilla, i think of something herbal and vaguely medicinal, so this fits right into that expectation. i quite enjoy it. as opposed to most of these extracts, this one is very flavorful in the recommended amount.
