Schooners Sarsaparilla

I keep on forgetting to review this one, it has sat in my fridge for probably close to a year really. the main reason is that it is caffeinated. yes, strange a sarsaparilla with caffeine! even anything in the root beer family with caffeine is unusual. as I often do my reviews later in the day and don’t really have caffeine outside of duathlon training during the morning, it keeps me up late if I have any after about 3 pm. so luckily it is only 2:30 now. I am not sure if this is really their own recipe or not. I mean, they claim to be Schooner Beverage Company but it is bottled by Hosmer and the ingredients are basically the same as the Hosmer Mountain Sarsaparilla, so there is that. a name change wouldn’t really justify a new review but perhaps this is different enough… ok, fine it is! I decide for me, you decide for you. plus it has been 21 years since I reviewed that one, my review is old enough to drink yuck beer legally, woo hoo!
well, the flavor here is not unusual really. if anything it is a little watered down. there is a little bitter sort of kick a couple seconds after the swallow, but otherwise you get a kind of regular root beer flavor with a lean on the herbal. I suppose if anything it is a little more light than I would expect from a sarsaparilla, often they are heavier on the sarsaparilla root/bark taste which makes them taste more hearty and heavy seeming. it is fine and good enough, just nothing that stands out.
