usually for christmas / holiday time, i find a holiday theme / kind of beverage to review which fits in my ‘root beer’ schema. but this year, when my review day actually falls ON christmas, i have failed to find anything new along those lines. alas and alack. no matter, perhaps next year there will be one. but you get a normal review instead, which is pretty great and the gift that comes every monday, unlike your pickle of the week subscription that is not so reliable.
Safeway is a chain of supermarkets scattered around the US, even Alaska and Hawaii apparently! huh. as many have done before them, they have introduced a line of more ‘gourmet,’ glass bottle, cane sugar sodas. i am fully in support of this venture and recommend every business do this. but i am no business man or financial advising person so take my advice with a huge chuck of salt, especially if you are a fountain pen manufacturer or construction worker or dentist or most other jobs really where root beer won’t sell well.
the taste here is good. standard micro-brew root beer taste, it doesn’t break ground but is better than the generic canned stuff. caramel flavor dominates with a creamy, sweet feel along with a little bit of a bite that ups the flavor and score a notch or two. so yeah, it is fine and it’s great they are making this, I just hope others follow suit and this lasts a while as well.
