from what i gather this is the store brand of the Raley’s supermarkets. it is always wonderful when a store cares enough to make glass bottle sodas. apparently they also have a sarsaparilla so i will have to get that some how as well (ok, actually i have it, of course Sage got that one for me as well!). i find it funny that it says ‘Root Beer’ in large letters, then ‘Flavored with other natural flavors’ much smaller under it. why can’t it just be root beer? is this some legal requirement? and are natural flavors really so wonderful? i mean it could be anything from bug shells to leaves to whale urine, they are all natural things. the label and packaging is good, a photo of their start as a soda shoppe, so that is cool. i don’t like this sort of large twist off top, it always seems to not keep soda as fresh, but whatever, just being knit-picky i suppose.
i was surprised at the lack of gas release when i opened the bottle but it does not seem to effect the carbonation or head on it. in fact it has a very large, long lasting foamy head. the flavor is okay. it feels a little flat to me, nothing that grabs you or comes to the forefront. it has a sweetness and a bit of rooty flavor with some caramel notes but sticks to the regular script/recipe of a root beer flavored beverage. as a store brand it is better than most others, but as a bottled root beer it is just decent. i am curious what their red apple soda is like though….
